MDPI Open Insights: Academic Publishing Workshop with High Performance Sport Institute, 8 October 2026

On 8 October 2026, MDPI will be conducting an Academic Publishing Workshop at the High Performance Sport Institute (HPSI) in Singapore. The workshop aims to provide researchers and sports science professionals with practical insights into responsible academic publishing, emerging technologies in scholarly communication and opportunities to publish their research in relevant international journals.
The High Performance Sport Institute (HPSI) is Singapore’s high-performance sports institute, supporting elite and emerging athletes through an integrated and holistic system designed for athlete development and excellence. The partnership between MDPI and HPSI provides an opportunity to connect the institute’s expertise in sports science and high-performance research with practical knowledge of the academic publishing process, helping researchers navigate the evolving landscape of scholarly communication.
The workshop will feature three sessions covering key aspects of academic publishing.
The workshop will begin with a session on Publication Ethics, covering important principles and considerations for responsible research and scholarly publishing. The session will introduce common ethical issues researchers may encounter during manuscript preparation and publication, including authorship, conflicts of interest, research integrity, plagiarism and other considerations that contribute to trustworthy scientific communication.
The second session will explore Artificial Intelligence in Scientific Publishing, examining the growing role of AI tools throughout the research and publication process. The session will discuss appropriate and responsible use of AI in scientific writing and publishing, as well as key considerations for researchers navigating this rapidly evolving area.
The workshop will conclude with an introduction to MDPI’s Journal of Functional Morphology and Kinesiology (JFMK), a peer-reviewed, open access journal covering research across functional morphology, kinesiology, sports medicine, biomechanics, rehabilitation, physical exercise, athletic training and human performance.
The session will provide participants with an overview of the journal’s scope and areas of interest, helping researchers identify how their work may align with the journal and better understand the considerations involved in preparing and submitting a manuscript.
