On 17 September 2026, MDPI hosted an Academic Publishing Workshop at Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), bringing together researchers and aspiring authors for an afternoon of practical insights into academic publishing, manuscript preparation, publication ethics, and the peer-review process.

The workshop provided participants with an overview of the publishing landscape while equipping them with practical knowledge and strategies to support their research publication journey.

The session began with Mr Kah Fee Ng, who introduced participants to MDPI and the principles of Open Access publishing. He also introduced Sustainability, an international, cross-disciplinary journal covering topics related to sustainability and sustainable development. The session offered participants a better understanding of Open Access publishing and the opportunities available to researchers seeking to share their work with the wider academic community.

Mr Ng then continued with a practical session on how to write and structure a manuscript. Participants were guided through key components of a research manuscript and learned how to organise their work in a clear and effective manner, from presenting the research background and methodology to discussing findings and drawing meaningful conclusions.

Following this, Dr Nicolette Yau delivered a session on “Publication Ethics for Authors”, highlighting important ethical considerations throughout the research and publication process. The session covered the responsibilities of authors and the importance of maintaining integrity, transparency, and responsible research practices when preparing a manuscript for publication.

The workshop concluded with a session on “How to Respond to Peer Review”, where participants explored approaches to addressing reviewer comments and revising manuscripts effectively. The session emphasised the importance of responding constructively and systematically to reviewer feedback while clearly communicating the changes made during the revision process.

Through a combination of practical guidance and discussions on key aspects of academic publishing, the workshop aimed to give participants greater confidence in navigating the publication process, from preparing a manuscript to responding to peer-review feedback.

MDPI is pleased to support researchers and academic communities through initiatives that promote knowledge sharing, responsible publishing, and greater understanding of the academic publication process.
