On 16 September 2026, MDPI conducted an Academic Publishing Workshop at Sampoerna University in Indonesia, introducing students and scholars to the fundamentals of academic publishing, open access, manuscript preparation, and the peer-review process.

Through a series of informative sessions delivered by MDPI representatives, participants gained insights into the academic publishing landscape and the essential skills involved in preparing and submitting research manuscripts.

The workshop began with Dr. Wei Thye Lee from MDPI Singapore, who introduced MDPI and its role in scholarly publishing. He also explained the principles of open access, highlighting its importance in making scientific research more accessible to researchers and readers worldwide.

Following the introduction, Dr. Lee conducted a session on writing and structuring a manuscript. Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of organising academic papers and presenting research findings in a clear and coherent manner.

The session offered practical insights into manuscript preparation, helping students better understand the components of a research paper and the considerations involved in communicating academic work effectively.

The workshop concluded with a session by Dr. Steven Moay on responding to peer review. Participants learned about the importance of addressing reviewers' comments constructively and professionally, as well as the role of peer review in strengthening the quality and rigour of published research.

The session provided an overview of an important stage in academic publishing, equipping participants with a better understanding of how authors can engage with reviewer feedback during the manuscript revision process.

Supporting the Next Generation of Researchers

The Academic Publishing Workshop marked MDPI's first initiative of this kind in Indonesia, representing an important opportunity to engage with the local academic community and introduce students to scholarly publishing.

By providing an introduction to open access, manuscript preparation, and peer review, the workshop aimed to build awareness of academic publishing among students who may pursue research and further studies in the future.

MDPI looks forward to continuing its engagement with universities and academic communities in Indonesia through initiatives that support research awareness, knowledge sharing, and the development of future researchers.
