Academic Publishing Workshop at the National University Hospital, 26 May 2026

MDPI Singapore is pleased to announce our upcoming Academic Publishing Workshop, organised in collaboration with the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore. The session will be led by MDPI Regional Academic Outreach Editors, Dr Amy Cham and Dr Nicholas Cho.
This workshop will cover key topics, including an introduction to MDPI, open access publishing, and our journals; publication ethics; effective strategies for responding to peer reviewers; and the evolving role of artificial intelligence in the scientific publishing industry, as well as the challenges it presents.
Learning objectives:
• Understand the scholarly publishing landscape and MDPI’s open access model;
• Apply key principles of publication ethics in academic research;
• Develop effective strategies for responding to peer reviewers;
• Explore the role of artificial intelligence in scientific publishing and its emerging challenges.

Speakers:
![]() | Dr. Amy Cham earned her PhD in neuroscience from Monash University Malaysia, where she researched the role of a novel neuronal protein in social stress, a critical link to depression. After completing her PhD, she spent three years in product management at a nutraceutical company. Dr. Cham joined MDPI in October 2022 as an Assistant Editor for IJMS, leveraging her academic expertise and industry experience to contribute to high-quality academic publishing. She was promoted to Group Leader in November 2023 and subsequently appointed Regional Engagement Editor in August 2024, during which she conducted extensive scholar visits across the APAC region, including Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan. |
![]() | Dr. Nicholas Cho Rui Wen graduated from Nanyang Technological University with a PhD from the School of Biological Sciences, studying the Gentianaceae species using bioinformatics tools such as statistical modeling and R and Linux, to apply the results to conservation efforts. He joined MDPI in March 2023 as an Assistant Editor, becoming Section Managing Editor in January 2024 and Deputy Managing Editor in August 2024. Part of this work involves engaging with scholars and researchers to work with MDPI and conducting outreach to guide young budding researchers. |
